1.Single Author Book
Stillman, D.(1998). English Neo-classical Architecture(2nd ed). England.A. Zwemmer Ltd.
This book shows the design concepts that dominated the English mansions, towns, residences, banks, churches and other essential building types for different needs. This style has broadened my understanding of the neo-classical ways of creating sturdy and useful building that are necessary and rational.

2. Scholarly Journal Article
Papadakis, A.C. Balslev Jorgenson,L.,Porphyrios,D.(1987).Cpoenhagen & Athens. Neoclassical Architecture,57(3/4),England
The article lets the reader know about the impact of the neoclassical movement during the beginning of the 19th Century. The hanson brothers were a big part of the neoclassical revival of Greece article. The revival of Greece into the neoclassical inspired me and shows that the classical architecture is a very important point of design and its ideas should be expressed into further projects crossing my path.
3. Edited Book
Middleton, R.Watkin,D.,Alison.E.C.(ed).(1980).Neoclassical and 19th Century Architecture: Harry N.Abrams, incorporated.
This edited book spans over time from 1750-1870, this book avoided using misleading term neoclassism and emphasised the rationalist theory in France and picturesque movement in England. This book has expanded my view on the movement in England in showing natural beauties as works of great art and could come in handy for naturist thinking during the design year.
4. Website
Neoclassical Architecture.(2007).Retrieved from http://www.architecture411.com/notes/note.php?id_note=6
This website article talks about the principles of Neo-Classical architecture showing its symmetry large columns for support and triangle shaped roofs. I could and should be using these elements in my design drawings and projects as they are as relevant today as they were in ancient times, and with today’s technology these ancients principles are still featured strongly in modern architecture.
5. Image
Frederic Edwin Church,F.E.(2011).The Parthenon , http://www.art-ist.org/the-parthenon-by-frederic-edwin-church/
This image by Frederic Church is a inspirational painting of the Parthenon it all of its destructed glory. It paints a sad image of the ancient building but the sun gleaming on it shows almost a glimmer of hope that it shall remain for a long time to come

Ex.6 Individual Work

I investigated Jim Dine's work because he works with grungey elements in his drawing style, we dont see this alot in mordern times which creates a sense of uniqueness in his pieces, his dark areas of shading creates the edges for his objects which is a new way of working with shading. The layout of his images use alot of space because of his elongated shading which adds a nice effect to complement his works of art.
This is quite a  interesting style to imitate as working with shading and shawdows is a new field for me but i think its a skill that i can now further investigate in up and coming projects.

Ex. 5 Touch and Draw

This is my Touch and Draw it shows the essence of my object without showing its full form, the texture within the object give a worn down, rustic look which really appeals to the eye of the viewer.

Code

This code was used to change my orginal form into 25 variables.

int j = 0;
int w = 100;// width of the squares
int h = 100;  // height of the squares
int x = 40; // x position
int y = 100; // y position
int s = 1;  //
int p = 0;  // width of the gaps between squares
int o = 0;  //
int u = 0;  // chages y position each aquare
int q = 0;  //
void setup() {
  size(500,500);
    background(255);
    }

    void draw() {
      while (q<3) {
      while(s<3){
      while (j<0) {
        int i = 0;

        while (i<j+1) {
          rect(x+w*i+(w/2)*(3-j)+(s*p+o),y +j*h+(q*u*i), w, h);
            i=i+1;
         q=q+1;
         s=s+1;
        }
        j=j+1;

      }
      }
      }
    }
void mousePressed() {
  save("var43.jpeg");
  }

Final 25

These are the 25 forms, which i shall be presenting today. These are all created using a single code. I showed variation to the point of my form changing into a completely different form.

Developmental Forms

These are some new developments of my form (pictured centre),  these will be featured in the 25 with more variations to be included.

Working with form.

This is my first little group of 25 images for my final hand-in, not all of the images will be used.

Re-worked Code

I re-worked my so my variables can be changed easily to create new forms.
New Code :

int j = 0;
int w = 100;
int h = 100;
int x = 50;
int y = 0;
void setup() {
  size(500, 500);
  background(255);
}
void draw() {
  while(j<3) {

    int i = 0;
    while(i<j+1){
      rect(x+w*i+(w/2)*(3-j),y+j*h,w,h);
      i=i+1;
    }

    j= j+1;
  }
}

First Look at my Form

Original form.

int i = 100;
int j = 100;
int w = 100;
int h = 100;
int x = 50;
int y = 0;

void setup() {
 size(500,500);
 background(255);
 }

void draw() {
rect(i,j*3,w,h);
rect(i+x*2,j*3,w,h);
rect(i+x*4,j*3,w,h);
rect(i+x,j*2,w,h);
rect(i+x*3,j*2,w,h);
rect(i+x*2,j,w,h);
}

DSDN 171 Blog 1

Hi there my name is Brett Orchard and I was born and raised in Blenheim, a small town set in the South Island.

Entering into the School of Design from small town Blenheim is an exciting new step in my lifelong ambition to become a well-equipped and skilled industrial designer whom shall excel in my field of expertise. I started creating and crafting works of Art through my high school years, my teacher always pushed the idea of making a career from doing what I love ever since I first stepped into her classroom, another aspect of my inspiration is seeing first-hand the senior design students working towards a similar career path, after looking through and admiring Kohen Judd’s work whilst at high school, I hoped to see myself working at his level or higher in the near future, this has always kept me motivated and focused for achieving my set goals.
 A new learning curve for me was not just creating something from scratch, but using professional Artist models processes with your own creativity and idea’s, into the piece to create new, innovative and breath-taking work with entirely original outcomes, this technique has broadened my understanding of design and how crucial outside influences are to your personal projects. At Design School, I hope to gain the knowledge and confidence in my ability whilst making links into the design industry, I realise this is the last step I have to take to achieve my long awaited goal to becoming a well-established designer in the Industrial Design community and hopefully one day owning my own design company.

I know that this path I take will not be easy, but I’m enthusiastic and eager to open my mind to the opportunities awaiting me these next few years.
